Jeep says that the integration of Fire TV into Wagoneer and Grand Wagoneer's infotainment system, the new Uconnect 5, will allow passengers to "access their favorite TV shows, movies and 'apps' as well as Amazon's assistant, Alexa.”
Christian Meunier, chief executive officer of Jeep, stated that "the release of Fire TV for Auto in the Wagoneer range as a technological novelty illustrates one of the many ways we want to produce leading technology and connectivity for our customers."
Fire TV will be available to passengers in the rear rows but also to the co-driver even if when the vehicle is not running, while a filter will prevent the driver from seeing the screen.
The infographic system incorporates a specific remote control, including Alexa, which allows the user to connect Fire TV with the Uconnect 5 system to manage vehicle temperature, maps, and other functions.
The automaker said Fire TV seamlessly communicates directly with the Uconnect 5 system, expanding on Alexa Auto in-vehicle technology "to help drivers stay focused on the road and keep passengers entertained".
Content syncs with an existing Amazon account, like other Fire TV devices, making it easy to navigate apps and resume playback of a show. Customers can pause a show in their home and seamlessly continue watching once they get into their vehicle.
The auto version of Fire TV builds on the domestic product available in the U.S.
Passengers can view in high definition from the rear seats and the front passenger screen (a privacy filter disables driver viewing). When the vehicle is in park, the driver also can view Fire TV on the main Uconnect 5 screen.
Touchscreen controls and support for compatible content can be downloaded for trips where wireless service is limited or to save on data.
A specific remote control includes push-to-talk access to Alexa, making it easy to find and quickly play shows.
The remote includes a button that connects with the new Uconnect 5 system for control of vehicle features, such as climate and maps.
"We reimagined Fire TV for the automobile with a purpose-built experience that delivers the best in entertainment, anywhere you go," claimed Sandeep Gupta, VP and general manager of Amazon Fire TV.
"Customers can stream their favorite shows, see if they left the lights on at home with Alexa, and take advantage of unique controls through the Uconnect system."
