For organizations that occasionally need a lot more computational capabilities than they are willing to purchase and install onsite, Nvidia has just the solution for them. The chip giant this week launched Base Command Platform, a solution that essentially gives enterprises the ability to access Nvidia DGX SuperPOD infrastructure on rental.

First unveiled in April this year where it was billed as the world’s first cloud-native supercomputer, the Nvidia DGX SuperPOD is a turnkey AI data center solution for enterprises. With up to 700 petaflops of computing power, it offers best-of-breed processing capabilities to enable AI solutions without the infrastructure.
The Base Command Platform features a cloud-based user interface, a command-line API, integrated monitoring, and reporting dashboards to accelerate the AI development lifecycle. It integrates with a broad range of AI and data science tools, including the Nvidia NGC catalog of AI and analytics software.
According to Nvidia, Base Command Platform was developed to enable the work of its research teams around the world.
“As enterprise AI adoption grows, so does demand for faster access to the world-leading infrastructure offered by NVIDIA and our partners,” said Manuvir Das, head of Enterprise Computing at NVIDIA.
“Base Command Platform makes it easy for enterprises to instantly access the power of an NVIDIA DGX SuperPOD to accelerate the AI and data science development lifecycle,” he said.
Nvidia highlighted an early access customer, Adobe. According to Adobe, it is exploring how Base Command Platform can enable its researchers and data scientists to work simultaneously on shared accelerated computing resources to speed up the development of new AI-powered software features and applications.
“Base Command Platform offers an easy onboarding experience for AI developers,” said Abhay Parasnis, CTO and chief product officer at Adobe. “Our team is exploring the potential of Base Command Platform to simplify the machine learning development workflow.”
Base Command Platform is currently available for rent in monthly increments to North American customers and is remotely hosted in Equinix data centers. The base monthly subscription starts at USD90,000 per month, subject to a three-month minimum.
