Google for Education and the New Zealand Ministry of Education (MoE) launched a partnership with Synnex in October 2021 to provide all state and state-integrated schools with Ministry-funded Chrome Education Upgrade and Google Workspace for Education Plus licenses.

The joint agreement aimed to upgrade teaching and learning tools used in classrooms and introduce life skills programs and specialized security tools provided to schools and school administrators.

Following the success of the initial Chrome Education Upgrade program, also funded by the Ministry of Education in 2018, the Ministry committed again to supporting three-year licenses for Google Workspace for Education Plus. These licenses have been available to schools through Synnex resellers.

Synnex started providing schools with education and training for Google Workspace for Education, including new Chrome Education Upgrade features.

Stuart Wakefield, the Ministry of Education’s chief digital officer, said, “The Ministry of Education is pleased to be able to renew and extend its existing agreement with Google through to 30 June 2024, covering Chrome Education Upgrade and Google Workspace for Education Plus for all state and state-integrated schools and kura in New Zealand.”

Wakefield noted that the addition of Google Workspace for Education to the agreement helped support the growing use of online learning platforms accelerated by Classroom lockdowns. It also provided the education system with advanced features in security, integration, and collaboration.

Colin Marson, head of Google for Education in APAC, said, “We are excited to extend and deepen our collaboration with the Ministry of Education. The New Zealand education system continues to be a global pioneer in leveraging technology in the classroom, and we look forward to continuing our support over the coming years.”

Johnson Ko, Synnex New Zealand sales and marketing manager, confirmed, “Bringing collaboration and productivity tools such as Google Workspace for Education into the hands of teachers and students will help accelerate the transformation from pure physical collaboration in classrooms to online collaboration, as New Zealanders continue to respond to the pandemic,” Ko continued.

Google for Education tools provide schools with a means of enriching classroom lessons, facilitating student engagement, and encouraging critical thinking.

Google Workspace for Education makes it easy for teachers to collaborate, streamline instructions, and create a safe and secure learning environment. Meanwhile, the Google Workspace for Education Plus edition offers a streamlined setup process, enhanced security features, and additional tools for teachers.
