APIs are critical for many organizations to open their data and services to third-party developers or make them accessible on mobile devices. But with the proliferation of APIs comes the need for a way to manage them effectively. This means handling traffic management, authorization and access control, monitoring and analytics, and creating documentation.
This is where Apigee comes in. Apigee is a platform that helps organizations build, operate, manage and monetize their APIs. However, cost and complexity can often be barriers to organizations implementing an API management solution.
Recently, Google Cloud’s Apigee launched a new Pay-as-You-go pricing model to help organizations manage their API costs better. Under this new model, customers only pay for the resources they use rather than a flat rate. This can help organizations control their costs and avoid overspending on API management.
"Every organization is increasingly relying on APIs to build new applications, adopt modern architectures or create new experiences. In such transformation journeys, Apigee’s Pay-as-you-go pricing will provide flexibility for organizations to start small and scale seamlessly with their API management needs," said Vikas Anand, director of product at Google Cloud.
The Pay-as-You-go model also offers flexibility in how organizations can use Apigee. For example, customers can start using the Pay-as-You-go model and then switch to a Subscription tier based on their usage. This can help organizations experiment with different API management use cases and find the one that best fits their needs.
Google will charge users for the number of Apigee gateway nodes used per minute and the total number of API requests analyzed per month. Users will also be billed for a minimum of one minute for each node they provision. Networking usage will also be charged, such as for the IP address, network egress, forwarding rules, etc.
Currently, there are three pricing models:
-
Evaluation: This plan allows customers to access Apigee’s capabilities at no cost for 60 days.
-
Subscription: Subscription plans are available across Standard, Enterprise, or Enterprise plus based on predictable but high-volume API needs.
-
Pay-as-You-go: The pay-as-you-go model is a consumption-based pricing model without startup costs.
Customers who want to get started with Apigee’s Pay-as-you-go pricing can go to console or try it for free here. Google also encourages users to read the documentation and use the pricing calculator for further details on Apigee’s Pay-as-you-go pricing for API management.
