As companies grapple with the sheer volume and complexity of customer data, a new report sheds light on the pivotal role of artificial intelligence (AI) in transforming this data into actionable insights.
Integrating AI with customer data platforms (CDPs) is not just a trend but a strategic necessity, marking a shift towards more personalized, seamless, and scalable customer experiences. This evolution reflects an industry-wide move to data-driven operations, with over 12.1 trillion API calls processed in 2023, emphasizing the critical need for real-time data processing and sophisticated technology integration.
According to the recent Customer Data Platform Report by Twilio Segment, data quality is now a strategic asset that distinguishes industry leaders in the AI-driven market. 60% of businesses view high-quality, accurate data as a fundamental ingredient for growth, underlining the significance of data integrity in leveraging AI for competitive advantage. The report also reveals a steady rise in the popularity of data warehouses as organizations seek deeper analytics and AI-driven insights beyond the capabilities of traditional customer relationship management systems (CRMs).
"In 2024, more and more brands will turn to AI to deliver better, more personalized experiences for their customers," said Kathryn Murphy, senior vice president of product and design at Twilio. "With data warehouses and data lakehouses like Databricks becoming central to customers' data strategies, it's crucial for CDPs to support seamless integration with these data warehouses. The ability to interoperate with data warehouses is essential, ensuring that CDPs act as a pivotal technology for brands eager to leverage AI and data to forge even stronger relationships with their customers."
The ascendance of data warehouses signifies a broader shift towards data centralization and quality as businesses aim for a more holistic view of customer interactions and behaviors. This shift enables real-time data integration, identity resolution, and activation of customer insights across various touchpoints facilitated by CDPs.
Furthermore, the report highlights the growth of enterprise solutions, with the Twilio Segment connecting customers to over 450 out-of-the-box integrations, including popular apps like Google Universal Analytics, Mixpanel, and Facebook Pixel. This trend towards greater flexibility and adaptability in data management reflects a market preference for modular systems that avoid vendor lock-in, offering businesses the tools they need to navigate the complexities of digital customer engagement.
“As businesses look to break down data silos and rely on a unified data platform to power their analytics and AI initiatives, the importance of data sharing and data quality has never been more apparent," said Chris Hecht, senior vice president of corporate development and product partnerships, at Databricks.
