DataStax last week signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) with Swinburne Vietnam to help develop data and tech talents in Vietnam through the development of a data and Information and Communications Technology (ICT) curriculum with training and certification modules.
Swinburne Vietnam is an international partnership between Swinburne University of Technology in Australia and FPT University in Vietnam
DataStax bills itself as a real-time data company and offers Astra DB as one of its products. A cloud-native data stack for building modern data apps, Astra is essentially a database-as-a-service (DBaaS) offering built on Apache Cassandra.
Apache Cassandra is an open-source NoSQL database known for its ability to reliably handle large amounts of data distributed across multiple nodes with lightning-fast access.
Joint academic program
The joint academic program with Swinburne Vietnam will include workshops, training courses, hackathons, and internship programs created by DataStax. At the same time, the university will issue DataStax certifications and expose students to DataStax's solutions that will equip them for careers in ICT.
According to the announcement, students can expect to gain in-demand knowledge and skills relating to computer systems, web development, big data management, programming, and emerging technologies. The partnership aims to enhance the country's ICT and big data ecosystem and advance their skills and employability in the workforce.
“The partnership will provide an excellent springboard for Vietnamese students to become the driving force of Vietnam's digitization initiatives," said Dr. Hoang Viet Ha, director of Swinburne Vietnam.
“With more and more economic sectors embracing digital technology, Vietnam is in a unique position to create a strong digital footprint that will advance our nation towards Industry 4.0.”
Thomas Been, chief marketing officer at DataStax said: "We have seen a strong desire to adopt advanced technologies in Vietnam such as blockchain, AI, and machine learning, which will require more [data scientists].”
Been added that the partnership is crucial in guiding students to effectively operate advanced technologies and will play a part in increasing Vietnam’s competitiveness with other digital economies across the globe.
While relatively new to the Asia Pacific region, DataStax is not new to partnering with educational institutions. In August, it announced a partnership with Nanyang Polytechnic (NYP) in Singapore to develop the next generation of big data talent in Singapore.
