In today's digital age, the internet has become an invaluable resource for those seeking to harm and exploit children. The online publication of child sexual exploitation and abuse content (CSEAC) is among the most rapidly-growing crimes globally, increasing by as much as 35% year-on-year.
In the Philippines, where online child exploitation is becoming a significant issue, the challenge of tackling this crime is being met with the development of innovative security technology.
CISO Angel Redoble of the Philippine Long Distance Telephone Company (PLDT) has created The Global Chain of Trust (GCoT). This security innovation seeks to secure the Domain Name System (DNS) to stop online child exploitation and cyberattacks on national security and businesses.
GcoT helps to secure the DNS against malicious actors who attempt to access it by misrouting users and hijacking data. According to Redoble, GCoT provides a unique line of defense for users and organizations, protecting them against malicious cyber-attacks while increasing the safety and resilience of the internet.
It detects malicious activity and alerts security teams in real time by registering, verifying, and categorizing trusted domains. It also shares these domains among partners within the GCoT ecosystem to create a more secure and resilient Internet. Furthermore, GCoT can reduce the time and resources required to respond to major Internet outages when current DNS infrastructures and communication processes are compromised.
Redoble is hopeful that GCoT will help reduce the number of online child exploitation cases and cyber-attacks in the Philippines. “The GCoT will remove the current chaos of today’s internet that cyber criminals take advantage of, and meets international calls for collaboration and innovation to protect all our children, as well as national security, essential infrastructures, and all sizes of businesses.”
Furthermore, Redoble stated that GCoT would become a guardian of the internet DNS space, verifying the legitimacy of websites and creating a safer, trusted, and resilient internet for everyone. From ISPs to SMEs and even individual residential users, GCoT provides a secure platform that protects children everywhere, he added.
“The GCT of technology will — via partnerships with ISPs, telecoms and government departments deploying the technology — safeguard the Internet, ensuring that trillions of dollars are not lost to cyber criminals, securing against national security threats and ensuring children globally can safely use the Internet for educational and leisure purposes," Redoble added.
