IBM has continued bolstering its hybrid cloud and artificial intelligence capabilities by acquiring Pliant, a leading network and IT infrastructure automation product provider.
The deal, financial terms not disclosed, is IBM's second this year and the 40th acquisition in the hybrid cloud and AI space since 2020.
Founded in 2017, Pliant leverages APIs to automate, integrate, and connect the full technology stack through the use of low-code building blocks, delivering a centralized platform that enables the smoother interaction of end-to-end systems.
“As enterprise network environments become increasingly dynamic, complex, and disparate, IT teams need automation tools to maximize value throughout their technology stack,” the IBM statement said.
“With the acquisition of Pliant, IBM will provide clients the ability to radically simplify the automation of their infrastructure and network with a tool that securely automates, integrates, and connects the platforms, services, and applications within their environments.”
The Pliant platform automates network and IT infrastructure tasks and abstracts these functions to the application layer, enabling applications—and developers—maximum control over simplified provisioning and managing infrastructure directly within applications.
Pliant offers an extensive library of out-of-the-box integrations with third-party vendors and the ability to integrate technology with an API or a command-line interface (CLI) enabled.
The platform complements other API approaches and supports deployments in private clouds and on-premises data centers.
"Delivered as both client-managed software and SaaS product, Pliant's design approach to automation aligns with IBM's vision to build and grow a product portfolio that leverages low-code and no-code capabilities to make IT tools and skills accessible to a wider range of developers and engineers," IBM said.
IBM will use the Pliant acquisition to extend its software portfolio, which includes SevOne, Cloud Pak for Network Automation, Hybrid Cloud Mesh, IBM NS1 Connect and Edge Application Manager.
The portfolio combines to provide enterprises with products that enable improved network infrastructure observability, connectivity, control, and automation across hybrid cloud environments.
