Is Hybrid Storage Still Driving You Mad? Hitachi Vantara's VSP One Has the Antidote

The hybrid cloud promised flexibility. Instead, we got chaos with data scattered across multiple environments, inconsistent management interfaces, and sky-high storage costs that make CFOs weep.

The numbers tell the story: Nearly 80% of companies now juggle multiple public clouds, while 60% operate several private clouds, according to a 2025 cloud adoption report. Meanwhile, 47% of IT and security leaders admit they're flying blind with limited visibility across these sprawling hybrid environments.

Now Hitachi Vantara thinks it has an answer that does not require you to rip out your existing architecture. Its Virtual Storage Platform One Software-Defined Storage (VSP One SDS), freshly minted for Google Cloud Marketplace with features, could also finally bring sanity to the hybrid storage chaos.

VSP One's arrival on Google Cloud Marketplace is an attempt to solve the fundamental problem of hybrid cloud complexity. To do this, it promises a single management interface that spans cloud and on-premises environments without requiring the dreaded re-architecting.

“Customers want the freedom to choose the right cloud for every workload and the assurance that their data will remain protected, available and easy to manage,” said Octavian Tanase, chief product officer at Hitachi Vantara. That freedom has been theoretical until now, constrained by storage platforms that treat hybrid deployments as an afterthought rather than the primary use case.

The new capabilities will make sense for data engineers drowning in storage complexity. Two-way asynchronous replication means primary and secondary sites can flip roles seamlessly, which means no more designated disaster recovery sites gathering dust until catastrophe strikes. Thin provisioning and advanced data compression promise to slash cloud storage costs by up to 40%, addressing the sticker shock that hits when enterprises realize how expensive cloud storage becomes at scale.

But the true advantage is consistency. VSP One targets 99.999% uptime, which is the kind of availability that makes enterprise SLAs achievable rather than aspirational. For companies where downtime means millions in lost revenue, this can also be existential.

“Bringing VSP One to Google Cloud Marketplace will help customers quickly deploy, manage and grow the data management solution on Google Cloud's trusted, global infrastructure,” said Dai Vu, managing director of Marketplace & ISV GTM Programs at Google Cloud. The emphasis on “quickly deploy” isn't accidental, as speed to value has become the ultimate differentiator in enterprise software.

The timing couldn't be better. AI workloads are exploding storage requirements just as organizations realize their hybrid architectures have become unmanageable. VSP One's software-defined approach offers an alternate path forward that doesn't require scrapping existing infrastructure, which will make sense for CFOs when budgets are being stretched thin.
