A new report has found that APAC lags behind other regions in the top salary brackets for DevOps roles, despite significant growth globally in DevOps salaries.
In its 2021 DevOps Salary Report, infrastructure automation company Puppet revealed that when looking specifically at APAC, 16% of roles fall under the bottom bracket of <USD35,000 p.a., compared to just 1% in the U.S., 2% in Canada, and 3% in EMEA.
The report also reveals that only 4% of managers and practitioners earned more than USD150,000 in 2021, compared to 6% in Europe/U.K., 12% in Canada, and 35% in the U.S.
“As APAC markets such as Singapore and Australia continue to become synonymous with innovation and transformation, organizations must digitally transform and modernize faster than ever,” said Rachel Lew, senior director for APAC at Puppet.
Even though salaries in the Asia Pacific are lagging behind other areas, when it comes to salaries of USD100,000 or more, Asia Pacific is ahead (33%) of Europe/U.K. (24%). This is in line with Puppet's findings from 2019 and 2020.
"The survey findings show that companies must keep pace with the competitive compensation globally in order to attract and nurture DevOps talent and critical skills in great demand,” Lew added.
With the pandemic continuing to fuel digital transformation efforts, Puppet notes that it is likely that the demand for DevOps roles — and the salaries that come with them — will only continue to increase in the coming years. The report highlights that more workers are moving into higher income levels than in the past three years, with companies investing in top talent to ensure sustainable success.
Puppet also notes developments in closing the salary gap between male and female practitioners within the higher income brackets. The percentage of women earning USD150,000-plus per year nearly doubled from 2020 to 2021, increasing from 8 to 17%.
